| NDRC report favorable to electric power industry |

(First Chinese Business Daily, Sept. 1, 2006) The National Development and Reform Commission published the Report concerning Analysis on Economic Situation in the First Half of 2006 related to the two industries of coal and electric power. According to the report, China’s shortage of power supply has been relieved, however, the shortage still exist in some areas or during peak times; proportion of industrial power demand further surges from 2002’s 71 per cent to the present 75 per cent. Besides, the report points out that the trend of coal overcapacity is still obvious. In the first half of 2006, China produced 995m tons of coal, up 8.3 per cent on 2005.
