| Huaneng Group join hands with Gansu Huating Coal to tap coal resources |

(China Coal Resource, Sep 07, 2006) China Huaneng Group (CHNG), one of China's five major power producers, and northwest China's largest coal producer Gansu Huating Coal Mining Group (GHCMG) Wednesday signed a cooperative agreement on coalmine development in Gansu province. The two companies will jointly invest 1.2 billion yuan to develop a large-sized coalmine with annual production of 2.40 million tons, as the agreement stated. In the next two years, CHNG will pour some 600 million yuan into the development of coal resources in Gansu province. The cooperative coalmine between CHNG and GHCMG has been listed in the eleventh five-year-plan of Gansu province as a key construction project. The construction is expected to commence in quarter four this year and put into operation by the end of 2008. CHNG is planning to increase investment in the western region to secure coal supply in the future, as the company's generator units capacity will surpass 80 thousand MW by 2010, said Li Xiaopeng, general manger of CHNG at signing ceremony. As one of backbone mining area, GHCMG holds 3.37 billion tons of coal reserve. The coal produced by the group, in characterization of high heating value, low-ash and low-sulfur and etc, is the ideal energy material for power generation and chemical industry.
