| Sri Lanka, China sign agreement on Norochcholai coal power plant |

(Colombopage, Sep 12, 2006) Sept 12, Colombo: The Sri Lanka government on Sunday signed an agreement with the Chinese government to obtain a loan of $455 million for the construction of the Norochcholai coal power plant. The Secretary to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundara and the Assistant General Manager of the Import and Export Bank of China signed on behalf of the governments of Sri Lanka and China, respectively. $300 million of the loan will be provided as a soft loan with 3.5% interest and 15-20 years to pay back. The Norochcholai coal power plant will be comprised of three 300 MW generators and will be completed by 2010 in three stages. Source:Colombopage |
