(Xinhua, Sep 16, 2006) BEIJING -- Retail sales of China's accommodation and catering industry rose to 653.76 billion yuan (81.72 billion U.S. dollars) in the first eight months, up 15.7 percent on same period last year. A source with the Ministry of Commerce said on Friday that the growth rate was 2.2 percent higher than the growth of the total retail sales of consumer goods in the same period. The industry accounted for 13.5 percent of the total retail sales. Retail sales of the accommodation and catering industry in August was 82.7 billion yuan, up 16.8 percent from the same month of last year. The number of new overseas-invested accommodation and catering enterprises stood at 693, down 6.6 percent, with the contractual use of foreign funds totaling 1.77 billion U.S. dollars, up 13.3 percent. The actual use of foreign funds amounted to 450 million dollars, a rise of 25 percent. The retail sales of the sector came to 571.06 billion yuan in the first seven months, up 15.5 percent on last year. Enditem |
