(MarketWire, Sept 20, 2006) --VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- Verona Development Corp. ("Verona") (TSX VENTURE: VDC) is pleased to announce plans regarding its coalbed methane (CBM) activities in the Shiloubei Block Hedong Basin, West Shanxi Province, China, where the company is working in conjunction with its partner, China United Coal Bed Methane Corporation Ltd (CUCBM).

Following the recent completion of regional exploration studies over its 1,015 square kilometre concession, Verona has begun drilling two wells, the SLB-V01C-2 and SLB-V02C, south of Liulin targeting major coal seams of the Late Carboniferous Taiyuan and the Early Permian Shanxi Formations. The Shanxi Coal Geology Prospecting Institute Coring Drill Crews 148 and 114 have been contracted, and the wells are currently drilling at depths of 535 metres (V01C-2) and 813 metres (V02C). Both wells have intersected bright high vitrinite strongly gassy coals and coring of the complete gas bearing coal sequence is continuing.

Under the supervision of Verona's drilling manager Dr. Ma Shouzhong and exploration manager Dr. Peter Turner it is anticipated that both wells will be completed by early October. On going studies will entail comprehensive desorption and petrograpaphic studies, detailed sedimentological studies, and permeability testing of key intervals. Test results will be released when available.
