(China) Coal price rises in certain regions last week

(ChinaCoalResource, Sept 22, 2006) The coal price rose in certain regions last week, even though the summer coal consumption peak has passed.
 
The sales price of 5,000-Kcal coal for power generation in Jinan in eastern coastal Shandong Province increased by RMB 10/ton (USD 2.5/ton).
 
According to a survey made at the end of August by the Eastern China Coal Sales Company, the coal stockpile held by consumers in the region was relatively low, with around 44% of consumers holding dangerously low levels of reserves.
 
In Shanxi Province, the coal price rose in quite a number of areas, with coal sales to other provinces rising after the Datong-Qinhuangdao railway resumed operation after a series of overhauls.
 
In central China, the price of 5,000-Kcal bituminous coal rose by RMB25/ton (USD3.13/ton) in Pingdingshan, Henan Province, with coal consumers starting to store coal in preparation for the winter.
