(Easy Bourse, Sept 22, 2006)- The second phase of Asia's biggest coal gas project in the central Chinese province of Henan has begun trial operations, the official Xinhua news agency reported Friday.
Startup on a test basis Thursday brings daily gas output at the facility to 3 million cubic meters, Xinhua quoted Chen Dangyi, deputy director of the provincial coal industry bureau, as saying.
The project, located in the coal-rich city of Yima, involves a total investment of $332.8 million and is part of efforts to produce cleaner energy and reduce air pollution in China. Construction of the project began in 1997.
Chen told Xinhua the project will reduce annual sulfur dioxide emissions by 76,250 metric tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 11,500 tons.
The first phase of operations has produced a total of 850 million cubic meters of coal gas since its launch in February 2001, Chen said. Daily output at the facility under the first phase was 1.2 million cubic meters, Xinhua said.
