Guangdong to invest US$36.6 bln in transport system

(ANTARA News/Asia Pulse, Sep 22, 2006) Guangzhou - China's southern province of Guangdong will invest 290 billion yuan (US$36.6 billion) in the country's 11th Five-Year Program period (2006-2010) to improve the local transport system.

The investments will be used for construction of a province-wide expressway network, coastal and inland river ports and a rural highway passenger transport system.

In the previous five-year period (2001-2005), the province's investment in highway and waterway transport facilities totaled 143.1 billion yuan.
