(AnhuiNews, Sept 28, 2006) During the "Tenth-Five" period, with the rapid development of economy, the environmental quality of Anhui province has been stable, making the economic society and environmental protection mutually promotive.

There have been built 30 nationally designated eco-demonstration regions, 32 nature reserves with an area of 4.9 thousand square kilometers, covering 30.3% of the forest and increasing by 2.35% over 2000. Eroded land of 7.6 thousand square kilometers has been controlled, with 72.6%% of deteriorated land being recovered.

According to the "Strategy Report for China Sustainable development 2006", so far, the ecological level and energy saving indicators of Anhui have been ranked the 13th and 14th respectively.
