(CCTV, Sept 29, 2006) China's economy is moving towards a "soft landing" but the government must continue with its macro controls, according to a think tank under the National Development and Reform Commission.

Economics data for August indicates that the earlier macroeconomic tuning measures have started to take effect. China has been trying to rein-in rapid growth in credit and investment, and to turn down the steam in various overheating sectors, including real estate. It has raised interest rates and reserve requirement for banks twice since late April.
