(IndiaDaily, Oct 26, 2006) Reliance Energy Ltd, one of the bidders for developing three 4,000 MW ultra mega power plants, has initiated discussions with Chinese, Korean and European companies as well as State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd to source equipment for the projects.

The Anil Ambani group firm has held talks with China's Shanghai Electric and Italian firm Alslado for procurement of various equipments such as boilers and turbines.

The company's EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) division has discussed the issue with public sector BHEL as well, the executive said, adding negotiations have also been held with other Chinese, South Korean and European companies.

The EPC division would be implementing these projects in case REL wins the bid. The official said REL would only source equipment from these companies and there is no plan to form a Joint Venture. So far, no decision has been taken as the projects have not been awarded, he added.

Shanghai Electric is already supplying equipment to REL's EPC division for Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd's 600 MW coal-fired Yamunanagar project.
