(AntaraNews, Oct 30, 2006) President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on his second-day stay in China on Saturday visited the trash-generated power plant in the Pudong City Heat Energy in Shanghai.

Accompanied by First Lady, Mrs. Any Yudhoyono and several ministers, the head of state was on the compound of the power plant that has been operated since 2002, for an hour.

Previously on the airplane heading for China, the president expressed hope that his visit would give inspiration or more knowledge on efforts to settle the trash problem at home.

"Trash has posed problems to Bandung (West Java provincial capital) and Jakarta. We have to make comparison with other countries which have similar problems of trash but have proper management and technology friendly to the environment, and win supports from their respective peoples," he said.

The power plant was built in December 1998 with the total investment of 670 Yuan. It now has the capacity of burning 1,100 to 1,200 tones of trash, and produces electricity between 35,000 kilowatts and 40,000 kilowatts.

The trash burning can reduce 90 percent of the trash produced by 1.2- 1.5 million houses in Pudong.

President left for China on Friday for a five-day working visit.
