Ma Kai: Chinese enterprises encouraged to build coal fired power plants in Indonesia

(Sina.com, Oct 30, 2006) The Second Indonesia-China Energy Forum (ICEF) kicked off in Shanghai on Oct. 28, 2006. As to build coal fired power plant with capacity of 1m kv. by 2009 is an important project of Indonesian energy industry, the Chinese Government encourages and supports Chinese enterprises to take part in construction of the project, and also hopes to discuss inter-governmental cooperation in this regard, said Minister Ma Kai of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

Besides, Mr. Ma added that an investment and cooperation mechanism should be established between China and Indonesia, and the two sides should focus on cooperation in six major fields: Firstly, coal, petroleum, natural gas and electric power; Secondly, renewable energy, alternative energy and efforts made to improve energy efficiency, Thirdly, bauxite, copper and nickel mine; Fourthly, roads, bridges, port, telecommunications and other infrastructure construction; Fifthly, light industry, machinery and electronics; Sixthly, forestry, agriculture, aquatic products fishing and processing industry.
