(China.com, Oct 31, 2006) China Macroeconomy Society, Chinese Renewable Energy Society, Chinese Wind Energy Association (CWEA) and Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Development and Reform held recently in Beijing a Seminar on China’s Diversification Strategy in Wind and Electric Power. The “strategic planning of building a green energy capital” in coastal areas of Jiangsu Province was approved at the seminar.

Wind power plants can be built in coastal areas of Jiangsu Province like Dongtai, Rudong, Dafeng, where wind and power resources are rich. The province plans to generate 142b kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity from wind energy, with 40m to 60m kv. of total installed capacity, in a short run, and 284b kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, with 120m kv. of total installed capacity, in a long run.

As of the end of 2005, total installed capacity of wind power project that had been approved reached 1.45m kv., and the franchised Dongtai wind power plant project and other projects in Dafeng, Rudong, Xiangshui, Binhai and Sheyang had been launched or approved. By 2010, Jiangsu Province’s total installed capacity of wind power will account for over 20 per cent to total in China, becoming the biggest wind power base.
