China’s coal and electric output surge in first 10 months

(Sina.com, Nov 28, 2006) In the first ten months of 2006, China’s coal output reached 1.673b tons, up 12.2 per cent on 2005; the country generated up to 2.25 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, up 13 per cent, according to statistics released by Economic Operation Bureau of NDRC on Nov. 28, 2006.

Pu Hongjiu, vice chairman of the China National Coal Association, said on Nov. 28, 2006 that China’s coal capacity, including that under construction, had reached 3b tons, far surpassing its demand of 2.5b tons in 2010.
