| Coal mine blast claims 11 lives in Gansu |

(Sxcoal, Nov 30, 2006) Eleven people were killed in a coal mine located in the Gansu Province of northwest China, local sources said Wednesday. The blast took place at the No.1 coal mine in Tanshanling Town of Wuwei City, 180 kilometers from Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province. This was the fourth coal mine accident in the last five days, while mine explosions in the provinces of Yunnan, Heilongjiang, Shanxi and Jiangxi during the weekend killed 88 miners taking the toll from the four accidents to over 100. Officials from the provincial work safety bureau said 27 miners survived and were checking out the number of workers present at the site during the accident. The officials gave no further details about the blast and an investigation is getting underway. Another seven workers were killed on Monday when a coal heap collapsed and buried them in the southwestern province of Guizhou. Source:Sxcoal |
