(Coals.cc, Dec 30, 2006) Sources from the Development and Reform Commission of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region disclose that the combined capacity of coal production projects in Inner Mongolia has reached 120 million metric tons. In 2006 Inner Mongolia’s newly-increased coal capacity reached 15 million metric tons due to production commencement of a series of medium- and large-scale coal exploration projects, including the Huolinhe No. 1 open-pit coal mines. The Haerwusu open-pit coal mine, with 1.73 billion metric tons of coal reserves, has a designed annual capacity of 20 million metric tons of crude coals, ranking No. 1 in capacity among open-pit coal mines in China. In 2005 Inner Mongolia produced 260 million metric tons of coals, becoming the second largest coal production region following Shanxi Province. The region produced 190 million metric tons of coals in the first three quarters of 2006. |
