Ministry of Communications to guarantee coal transportation in 2007

(Coals.cc, Dec 30, 2006) On Dec. 27, 2006, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Communications held a video conference on coal production and transportation convergence. Xu Zuyuan, Vice Minister of Communications, said that the Ministry of Communicatiosn will strengthen contact between key coal mines, customers and all railway departments, in a bid to guarantee next year’s coal transportation for key industries, projects, enterprises and contracts.

Statistics show that total handling capacity of China’s major coastal ports reached 813 million metric tons, including 144 million tons of newly-increased coal capacity, and that coal distribution capacity at major coastal ports will top 400 million tons, up 8.1 per cent on 2005, including 345 million tons of domestic coal trade and 62 million tons of coal export and 20 million tons of coal import.
