(Coals.cc, Dec 31, 2006) Zhanjiang Port Bureau announced on 29 December 2006 that Zhanjiang Port’s handling capacity had topped 80 million metric tons. Zhangjiang will divide its ports into twelve port areas in an effort to restructure its port resources, according to the city’s General Plan on Zhanjiang Port. The port is listed by the Ministry of Communications as a major coastal port in Southwest China, acting as transshipment and storage center for ores, petroleum products, natural gas and grains. During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, the city plans to make 10 billion yuan of investment to build 42 new berths, with newly-increase capacity of 135 million tons and container handling capacity of 800,000 standard containers. The port’s total handling capacity will exceed 100 million metric tons in 2008, and 130 million tons in 2010, becoming a regional center for international shipping. |
