149 coal mine accidents causing casualty of 476 in Shanxi Province

(Coals.cc, Dec 31, 2006) The Coalchar Industry Bureau of Shanxi Province said yesterday that as of Dec. 20, 2006, 149 coal mine accident occurred in the province, causing a casualty of 476, and that the province’s mortality rate reached 0.877 people per 1m-ton coal production, lower than the nation’s rate target of 0.879.

In the first eleven months of 2006, Shanxi Province produced 509 million tons of coals, up 10.16 per cent on 2005. The figures are expected to reach up to 570 million for the whole year.
