Marine economy a new economic growth point in China

(People'sDailyOnline, Apr 11, 2007) The latest data shows that the marine economy has become a new growth point of China's national economy. According to the latest statistics, the value of China's marine production output has reached 2.0958 trillion yuan, accounting for 10.01% of the national GDP.

According to preliminary statistics, the national oceanic GDP was 2.0958 trillion yuan in 2006, an increase of 13.97% from 2005, accounting for 10.01% of domestic products. Some 29.603 million people are now involved in this economy. The combined marine production value of the Bohai Rim Economic Region and the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone was more than 650 billion yuan, accounting for approximately two thirds of the national oceanic GDP.

During the 10th Five-Year Plan period, the national oceanic GDP grew from 930.719 billion yuan to 1.802586 trillion yuan, with an 18% annual growth rate.
