| China plans to control energy consumption within 2.7 bn tons of standard coal |

(Chinamining.org, Apr 11, 2007) The National Development and Reform Commission on April 10 published the "11 Five-Year Program for Energy Development" on its website, raising the target that by 2010, China's primary energy consumption will be controlled at 2.7 billion standard coal, averaging an annual growth of 4 percent. According to this plan, by 2010, the proportion of coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear power, hydropower and other renewable energy in primary energy consumption will reach 66.1 percent, 20.5 percent, 5.3 percent, 0.9 percent, 6.8 percent and 0.4 percent respectively. Compared with in 2005, the proportion of coal and oil will drop slightly, while that of natural gas, nuclear power, hydropower and other renewable energy will increase. The plan also raises the target that by 2010, China's primary energy production will be 2.446 billion standard coals, averaging an annual growth of 3.5 percent. According to the plan, China should speed up constructing government oil reserve, establish enterprise compulsory reserve timely, and encourage development of commercial oil reserve, in an effort to enhance the energy safety in China. source:Chinamining.org |
