China to tighten oversight of M&As, focus on foreign deals - report

(Abcmoney, Apr 13, 2007) China's stock market regulator will tighten oversight of mergers and acquisitions, especially those involving foreign companies, the Shanghai Daily reported, citing sources.

The newspaper reported that the China Securities and Regulatory Commission will grant more powers to a review committee to probe and block deals that may involve monopolies or other irregularities.

The committee will also be directed to focus on foreign companies buying controlling shares in domestic enterprises, the newspaper reported.
